Maximize Your Health & Your Wallet with Health Savings Accounts
Take Advantage of Using HSA and FSA Accounts at Our Clinics
Taking care of your health is one of the best investments you can make, but did you know there’s a way to do it more cost-effectively? If you’re a patient (or prospective one) at Lowcountry Male, you may be eligible to use a Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) to pay for many of your healthcare expenses with pre-tax dollars.
Whether you’re managing hormone optimization, weight loss support, erectile dysfunction treatment, prescription services or other plans we offer, using your HSA or FSA can mean big tax savings for you. You can even use it for your initial consultation & labwork!
Why Use a Health Savings Account?
The Tax Benefits of HSA & FSA Accounts
Both HSA and FSA accounts are designed to help you pay for qualified medical expenses with money that hasn’t been taxed.
What is a high-deductible health plan?
Effectively, a high-deductible health plan (or HDHP) requires you to pay a higher amount for medical care out of pocket before your insurance starts covering eligible costs, when compared to a traditional health plan. The amount you must pay out-of-pocket, before insurance will kick in, is known as your deductible, and there are certain limits a plan must meet to be considered an HDHP. Click here for more information:
Every year, the IRS publishes rules to the limits, and in 2025 an HDHP is any plan with a deductible of at least $1,650 for an individual or $3,300 for a family. (Source)
Here’s how they work:
HSA (Health Savings Account):
Available if you have a high-deductible health plan ($1,650 individual and $3,300 family in 2025). Contributions, growth, and withdrawals for qualified expenses are tax-free.
FSA (Flexible Spending Account):
Offered through many employers. Contributions are deducted from your paycheck before taxes, which lowers your taxable income.
The bottom line? Using these accounts lowers your tax bill and helps you pay for out-of-pocket health expenses more efficiently.
What Can You Use HSA/FSA Funds For at Our Clinic?
Many of our services may qualify as eligible expenses, including:
- Hormone therapy (e.g., testosterone replacement TRT, Biodentical Hormone Replacement BHRT)
- Initial consultation with our doctors
- Lab work and diagnostics
- Weight management programs (if medically necessary)
- Prescription medications
- Erectile dysfunction consultations and treatments
We recommend checking with your HSA/FSA provider to confirm coverage of specific services, and we’re happy to provide itemized receipts if needed.
How Much Can You Save?
Let’s take this example:
Let’s say you spend $2,500 per year on eligible health services at our clinic.
Without HSA/FSA, you pay with after-tax dollars. This means if you’re in a 30% combined tax bracket (federal + state), you’d need to earn about $3,571 to cover that $2,500 in expenses.
However, with an HSA/FSA plan, you contribute $2,500 from your paycheck before taxes – which you use in our clinic for services. You save $1,071 in taxes – that’s money back in your pocket just for planning ahead!
Who Qualifies for an HSA and How to Set One Up
To qualify for a Health Savings Account (HSA), you must be enrolled in a high-deductible health plan (HDHP) and have no other health coverage (with a few exceptions), and you cannot be enrolled in Medicare or claimed as a dependent on someone else’s tax return.
You can set up an HSA through many banks, credit unions, insurance providers, or financial institutions like Fidelity, Lively, or HSA Bank. Once set up, you can contribute pre-tax dollars and use them for qualified medical expenses, giving you both flexibility and tax savings.
Here are the 2025 maximum contribution limits for HSA and FSA accounts:
Health Savings Account (HSA) – 2025 Limits:
- Individual coverage: $4,300
- Family coverage: $8,550
- Catch-up contribution (age 55+): Additional $1,000
HSA funds roll over year to year and are yours to keep, even if you change jobs or insurance plans.
Flexible Spending Account (FSA) – 2025 Limit:
- Health FSA (individual): $3,200
FSA funds are “use-it-or-lose-it” unless your plan offers a rollover or grace period. Some employers may allow up to $640 of unused funds to roll over to the next year (check with your plan for details).
